My Summer ‘To Do’ List…

Summer To Do List

It suddenly dawned on me as I was rummaging through my bathroom cabinet for Factor 5000 sun-block *rolls eyes* that July has literally crept up upon us & I’m still not prepared for summer. How the heck did that happen?! So to make the most of the glorious blue skies & coconut scented air I’ve gathered together a few summer essentials I’ve gotta prioritise pronto. Pimms anyone?

.

1

…I’m not even going to disclose how long it’s been since my follicles have seen a pair of scissors.  It’s time to tame the frizz. I’m thinking shoulder length, chocolate brown, soft layered/tousled curls. What ya think ladies… Yay or Nay?

.

2

…if you’d only seen the state of my boudoir last week when I awoke to a gloriously sunny morning that didn’t just look hot but felt it too. However, it would seem I’m *still* going through some sort of relentless teen-grunge stage as 90% of what threads I own is either black OR grey. Doesn’t exactly scream summer huh?! A splash of colour & flash of ankle *ooo err misses* is looong overdue.

.

3

…I have utterly no idea what the heck my skin is playing at recently but it’s literally drinking moisturisers/ foundations/balms at an alarming rate. My current daily face cream seems to have the same effect as rubbing wallpaper paste on my already withering complexion. Someone, anyone, help?!?!

.

4

…I have no excuse. I live opposite a huge one with plenty of room for my embarrassingly unused picnic blanket that I’ve been meaning to break-free from it’s vacuum wrapped packaging for the last 6 weeks *sigh*

.

5

…alternatively I could revert to the back-up-plan and buy a large container of self-tanning lotion for those sassy summer streaks & tantalising tangerine elbows. The endless JOYS of being virtually translucent.

.

6

…that’s a toughie. No, really it is. THE GRITTY-NESS. Urrgh.

.

7

…I seem to be in the psychological mindset that hair is perfectly self preserving and needs only the most basic of potions to keep it that way. Why the hell would you spend £6 a bottle when there’s a perfectly good smelling shampoo on the shelf below it for 80p?! Hmm. I suppose that considering I resemble a misshapen haystack after every blow-dry maybe (just maybe) my theory may not be as entirely beneficial as I initially assumed.

.

8

…genuinely gals, I am aghast at how explosive this little app can be. The countless opportunities I’ve missed to post utterly random (if not slightly useless) piccies is admittedly appalling, if not slightly shameful!

.

9

…it seems the world and his wife are covering their gadgets in cutesie little ice cream cones with smiley faces or pictures of perfectly formed palm trees. However glance toward to my pocket phone pal & the look is a tad morbid with its glossy black cover that screams ‘Investment Banker’ *yawn* It would seem it’s not officially summer until the iphone has been officially pimped with a flip-flop phone charm at the very least.

.

10

…what could possibly conjure an image of summery fun than airing my already fried follicles with the aroma of charcoal & burnt sausages? More importantly at least I’ll really get to test the sweat proof claims of my new foundation & waterproof mascara. L’Oreal, damn right I’d better be ‘worth it’.

What’s top of your Summer ‘To Do’ list? Have you already spent countless hours topping up your tan on the beach with the latest copy of Glamour? Whatever your thoughts keep me posted in the comments below 😀 Otherwise don’t forget to say a quick hello!

  1. Great list Karen!
I feel you on the freckles…despite using spf 50 on my face the entire year, they have appeared! I used to hate them as a child, but I don’t mind them as much any more 😉
Now: go unwrap your beach blanket and enjoy the weather. it won’t last 🙂

    • I think us pale skin folk just learn to live with them… just wish I could catch enough sun to join them all up and make what may appear to be an all over tan 😉 haha

Ps: It’s POURING outside… poor blanket will have to wait for another day *sigh* Xxx

      • Now that would make me look supertanned indeed! I think my freckles are why consultants always try to sell me super dark foundation 🙂
Oh no, sorry to hear. We are having a heatwave, so I figured your weather would be semi decent as well.

      • Hmmm, that’s half of my issue too…. the summer time & freckle count goes up but so does the suggested shade for foundations lol Doesn’t work – I end up looking like I’ve been dipped in creosote!!! haha Enjoy the heatwave – lather up with your SPF! Hope the packing is going well chummy XXXXX

      • Exactly: I look like someone with a ridiculously tanned face and a super pale neck 😉 Took me a while to figure out why MUA would always give me those weird suggestions, until I realized it was the freckles in summer.
Heatwave over, rain has returned 😉 Better for the DIY though.

      • LOL!!!!! Yesssss, I’ve had to too!!!! Crrazzy eh!? haha Yes, rain here too – had a torrential downpour yesterday afternoon and actually really enjoyed it watching the rain bouncing of the ground – something oddly therapeutic about storm weather lol Happy DIYing, it’s gonna look aaaahmazing!! 😉 XXX

  2. I totally get you on the translucent skin thing! I’m currently wearing factor 50 just to prevent major burns!
Also try your local boots and go upto some of the counters, some of the ladies are lovely and more than helpful at helping you find good moisturisers!
Oh and you have to try making your own burgers for a barbeque, they don’t burn as easily and taste super yummy!xx

    • Grrr it’s such a pain… no amount of lotions or potions seems to ward of burns, hence why I ended up investing in an Ikea parasol lol Oh I surely will, I’m hoping to visit Boots in Belfast this weekend as that’s a pretty big store so fingers crossed 😉
Oooh thank you for the BBQ Burger tip – that’s a fun little fact… must try it out!!!!! Hope you’re having a fab day & thanks so much for stopping by lovely 🙂 XXXX

Oooh must check out the serum… honestly not giggling at your descriptive encounter with a cleansing brush. Promise! *tee hee* That little potion sounds exactly what I need right now!!!! XXX

  3. Great list! I too need to get a hair cut. Trouble is I don’t know where to go to get it cut. I used to be a Toni & Guy gal but to be honest I felt like it was an extensive outing because I always have my hair the same way (boring!) I once had it cut into a stylish bob like Frankie from the Saturdays and I liked that! Maybe one day I will do that again! When I am feeling brave! xxx

  4. Oh boy. It’s been a while since my last hair cut as well. I have the best intentions of getting regular trims and then 6 months roll by before I get my butt to a salon

  5. I wanted to have a fun relaxing summer – I’ve got some great stuff planned but trying to find somewhere to move to is ruining it for me atm! I’m seriously stressing over it *sigh*
My plan is to line up a load of viewings for this week to get me going & then once moved I’ve got a week in Amsterdam, a day in London seeing Wicked & hopefully a day ticket to Reading festival to look forward to 😊 x

    • Oh no Rach 😦 Finding a home is always a stress, but a major pain when you’re missing out on what should be a fun summer!! Keeping my fingers crossed the perfect little pad will come your way very very soon!!! Thankfully you have a few things to look forward too – needs must 😉 hehe Good luck huni XXXX

      • Tell me about it! I know 100% I’ve got two viewings after work tomorrow with an agency, but can’t for the life of me figure out which one & what the properties are! Been looking at so many places nothing’s sticking!

Thank you Karen, I’ll finish writing my answers for you as soon as I get half a chance xxxx

Ohhh that makes me feel slightly better! I’ve had it a few weeks as it is xxxx

      • It’s probably because your mind is soooo darn active thinking about all these stresses huni! 😦 Just think about all the lovely rest you can catch up on once you’re in to your new wee home and that’ll keep you focused on your hunt 🙂 ❤ XXX

  6. I laughed at you #8 because I’m going through the same distress. To post or not to post, that is the question, ha! My #1 goal is to find some time to relax and read in the sun. I’m a “go-go-go” type of person, so relaxation will be key to keeping my energy on the up! 🙂

    Liked by 1 person

    • YES!!! That’s me too!!!! I caught myself looking at a photo I had taken of half drunk banana milkshake wondering if it was indeed worthy to post… simply because I haven’t put a damn thing up in ages!!!! lol
Reading in the sun sounds absolutely glorious – you need to get the time to squeeze that in. Essential. 😉 X

      • Doesn’t it just – perfect useless office wall art. Which reminds me, my toothpaste tube is coming to an end, that could make an interesting subject too… getting very creative here! There shall be flocks of followers all waiting on my next thought provoking image…. haha. Ach sure at least we can giggle about it right?! lol X

  7. Great post Karen! I always get new freckles in the summer too. The joy of being so fair right? I think how you described doing your hair sounds really nice and you should definitely go for it! Treat yourself! You deserve it! 🙂 I need to use some more of my fake tan. I haven’t used it since I reviewed it for a blog post. Might be nice to have a little bit of color lol. I hope you’re feeling much better today! ❤ ❤ XXXXXXX

    • Haaa the joy indeed Katie!!! But then you have Irish blood in you too don’t you if memory serves me right?! 😉 I think I’m just going to go for it Katie – looooong over due and it’ll help cheer me up!! I think I’m gonna go with a tinted moisturiser this time, but need to suss some out!! Yes, was at the Dr’s this afternoon so now on a cocktail of meds to lift this asap! Fingers crossed they do the job fairly quickly lol Hope you’re having a super day lovely XXX

      Liked by 1 person

      • Yes I do have Irish blood running through my veins and am proud of it! Ron says he loves my freckles and he would love it if I got even more! I saw your post on FB about the tinted moisturizer. If you find any good ones let me know. Glad to hear that you’re on meds now. That will hopefully speed up the healing process! Thank you so much! Today has been a nice day so far. Just relaxing for today I’ve decided. 🙂 XXX ❤ ❤

Yes, on meds – came home with literally a bag full off stuff… not a fan of taking such a mixture but they’re all to get this damn thing lifted and avoid being admitted. They’re working so far so happy days 😉 XXXXXXX

  8. Nice list 🙂
At the moment, my summer to-do list has only two things on it:
    1) avoid strong sunlight for any period that could result in tanning
    and 2) go to Ikea

Well, I already got the hair cut done and that had been long overdue. I’m sure it had been about a year and a half. Possibly two years.

  9. Embracing sandy feet?!! Yes!! Since I know feet are your favorite. Hahaha going to the beach in the summer is a great idea. Especially when the weather is warm. To sit back and relax while sipping a piña colada slurp yum! 😀 xoxoxo

  10. Excellent list, Karen! I think a haircut and infusion of right colors in your wardrobe is the perfect kickoff to summer 🙂 I’ve been pretending it’s summer since early May, and going to the beach/lounging in the sun at every possible opportunity. Now that summer is official I’m beside myself with excitement!!

PS Have you tried moisturizing with oil at night/using an oil cleanser? It would definitely help your skin fight off the dryness 🙂

    • Ahhhh you lucky duck…. we’ve had to wait a bit longer… my poor picnic blanket will be disintegrating if I don’t use it soon!! lol Yay for it finally here 🙂
I don’t believe I have Mil… I think that’s something I need to try out! As long as I don’t look and feel like a deep-fat-fryer if it works I’m all for it 😉 Thank you sooo much for tip huni!! Much appreciated XXXXXXX

  11. I am so with you on using Instagram more. As for your skincare rut, try hyaluronic acid. It is scientifically proven to retain moisture 1000 times better than water and it’s pretty affordable (about $20 a bottle that will last for about 4-6 months). I also really love the body shops moisturizer in the pink tub as well as their moisture mask!!!

    Liked by 1 person

    • That’s so weird as another blogger just recommended Nip & Fab Dragon Blood Fix Serum which has the hyaluronic acid… initially I was thinking ‘What the heck? Acid?’ But it must be really beneficial as it’s getting awesome reviews! Will defo check out the Body Shop’s range – honestly Kaily I keep forgetting about them!!! Xxxx

  13. Wow this list could be my own! Especially the first three. And I totally hear you on the nineties wardrobe of grey and black, (and I’m not sure if denim counts as a colour if you use it as a neutral). If i manage to incorporate some purple or burgundy into my outfit I’m having a colourful day! lol. I just don’t think I’m a summer person really. Good luck with that barbecue, that would be my idea of a nightmare! b.x

    • Heck yes, denim is soooooo a colour in my wardrobe – pleeeeease don’t say it aint’ or I’m screwed completely in the colour dept lol Ooh I LOVE those colours – I’m pretty sure this is the reason why autumn is my fav time of the year haha Thanks for the goodluck wishes…. I think I’m gonna need them 😉 XXXX

    • lol thank you sweetie 😀 Oooh that sounds interesting!! How’s it going for you? I’ve just been recommended Nip & Fabs Dragon Blood Serum which looks aaaaaahmazing for thirsty skin. Cannot wait to try it out.. looks awesome 🙂 XXXX

      • That stuff sounds even more amazing! So far, the Clinque is really good! It’s a bit pricey (almost $50 for a little tub!) but it goes on like a gel that blends into your skin, & then you can put your make-up on right after! Let us know when you find something that works for you! I’m always looking for good skin creams!
