Ho Ho Ho… Merry Christmas Eve y’all! Is everyone excited and ready for the big day as we are?
So before the preparations for the big day commences into a blurr of peeling veg, stuffing Turkeys and tackling a mountain of scrumptious desserts; I just wanted to wish every single one of my readers & fantastic blog buddies a very merry Christmas before signing off for the holidays.
Of course I’m hoping to be back and raring to go on Sunday but before I take a few days to recover I couldn’t say a big cheerio without tackling this fun Christmas Tag that the lovely Kaily from Hello Kaily recently tagged me in! Fancy a fun read? Then get yourself comfy & let’s get started…
What’s your favourite Christmas movie?
Hmm, that’s a toughie as there are quite a few I seem to reach for, all for different reasons. To ignite a few festive giggles National Lampoons Christmas Vacation always get’s me tee-heeing, whereas if I want to watch something that sparks a little bit of childhood magic then Polar Express always gets my vote. However to really connect with the reason for the season I’d usually opt for The Nativity Story, which is an amazing re-enactment of the birth of Jesus.
Have you ever had a white Christmas?
I sure have – all but briefly!! I remember when I was about 12 we had a good dose of snow on Christmas day – something that very rarely happens in Ireland. It’s amazing how a scattering of the white stuff makes everyone feel a little more festive! Having said that, a few years ago we also had an unusually harsh winter that resulted in a considerable snow storm… but living so close to the coast much of it didn’t lie in our area, thought it was a gorgeous sight to peer out at the distant hills & mountains dusted in snow!
What’s your favourite Christmas song?
Hmm, again I’d have a hard time choosing – for a good old sing song I’d say Fairytale of New York by the Pogues & Kirsty McColl. However O Holy Night never EVER fails to gives me goosebumps from how beautiful it sounds, especially when sung by a choir. Stunning!
Do you open presents on Christmas Eve?
Nope, never have done. Even when I was younger I loved keeping as many as I could until Christmas day – adds to the excitement!
Can you name all of Santa’s reindeers?
Determined not to cheat… Rudolf (obviously) Comet, Cupid, Prancer, Dancer, Vixen, Blitzen & ??? *resisting the urge to consult with Google* Oooh, sorry can’t remember *sigh*
What holiday traditions are you looking forward to the most this year?
I honestly think just the ability to spend time with family. It’s not very often we’re all able to get together so to have everyone under my roof on one day is the best pressie of all!
Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Fake. Gorgeous big 6ft tree that was on sale for £20 in Woolworths about 10 years ago and it still looks as good as new! If truth be told I’m not really a fan of some real trees – I think they look a tad skinny and sparse. Gimme a big fat fake anyday 😀
What is your all time favourite holiday food/sweet treet?
My amazing homemade stuffing – it’s literally dribblesome! However I am partial to a little chilli coated nut and slice of pavlova *nom* 😉
What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
Oddly enough it was something I never asked for or ever expected to receive… when I was 12 years old (the year of the snow) there was a huge wrapped box sitting with my pile of pressies that said ‘open last’. Inside it was a Sega Mega Drive along with games. I’d never even thought of asking for a games console but my sis and I had MANY a happy hour playing Sonic The Hedgehog together and eating Christmas nibbles! Great memories 🙂
What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
I’d have to agree with Kaily and say New York. It looks so incredibly exciting anytime of year but with all the lights & window displays for Christmas I think I’d be in my element – however I’d literally have to save up for years as I know I’d go utterly nuts with the shopping!
Are you a pro present wrapper or do you fail miserably?
Definitely a pro – I LOVE it. In fact I’d happily make a career out of wrapping pressies!
Most memorable holiday moment?
Without sounding ridiculously smushy but I’d have to say that literally every single Christmas as a child was amazing. Every year I had my family around me, was blessed with receiving incredible gifts and had younger siblings that I grew up watching them experience the same magic as I did. Sharing the holidays with a great clan makes it memorable… and now that I have a little girl of my own I’m reliving it all over again through her excitement. Every year great new memories are made 🙂
What made you realise the truth about Santa?
I remember when I was about 10 walking into our spare room a week or so before Christmas and noticing this huge bed sheet draped over something big. Of course being a child (notoriously curious) I peeked underneath and saw the bike that I had asked Santa for. Needless to say my little heart broke that day, I’d spent so many years listening out for him on Christmas eve for it all to be smashed by that one revelation 😦
Do you make New Years resolutions? If so do you stick to them?
Nope, I never make new years resolutions simply because I’ve never been able to stick to the blasted things – instead I’ll just carry a few goals in mind to aim for and focus on getting as close as I can to achieving them!
What makes the holidays special for you?
Family. I think most of my clan would agree that I’d be the planner of the pack – so come the festive season I tend to offer the invitation for everyone to come over. The thought of spending it all separated, doing our own things makes me utterly depressed. Having everyone celebrate the season together is always my aim ❤
You! I know it’s a little late in the season but if this is something you’d enjoy giving a go then do help yourself and don’t forget to leave a little link in the comments below so I can check it out too.
Once again, wishing each and every one of you the merriest of Christmas holidays – wherever you are & whoever you’re spending it with I sincerely hope you have a jolly good time celebrating!
Catch me on:
